A Plan for Our Children’s Safety

Guardian AngelWest Virginia may become the first state to integrate traffic video surveillance to help track missing children after an Amber Alert.

This is an idea so good, I would have thought they were already doing this!

Called the “Guardian Angel Video Monitoring Program”, this bill has been passed by the House and is going on to the Senate. (Say yes! Say yes!)

Of course there’s a price. But the Department of Highways is getting ready to make the needed upgrades anyway, and House Majority Leader Joe DeLong (D-Hancock), lead sponsor of this bill, thinks this is perfect timing. The planned upgrades include high-tech cameras, message boards and weather systems on at least four of our major interstates.

The legislation also wants West Virginia and neighboring states to share information to help find missing children faster. Well, of course — why wouldn’t you?

The upgrades are planned already. Using the technology the improvement will bring will add little if any additional cost.

West Virginia already has a 100% recovery rate of children after an Amber Alert. Let’s not lose a one, shall we?

100%? Seriously?!?!? How awesome! I enrolled my kids in that. I am so glad that the schools coordinate the signing-up process so every kid gets enrolled.

Heck, if they’re upgrading anyway, why not? There are a lot of stupid expenses that taxpayers have to cover, but this is definitely worth my tax dollar! I hope it’s a go!

Rebecca, that was pretty much what I thought! If we’re already spending the dough, why not make it work for us in as many ways as we can? And what’s more precious than our kids? It’s a no brainer!
