A Whirlwind Tour of West Virginia
The photos in this post were all taken by my 11 year old daughter (who is referred to as Little One online) on her fifth grade class trip. I thought I’d share a few of their stops as a quick tour of some of the highlights of West Virginia beauty. Her class visited all of these places in one very busy bus trip, but any of the stops would make a great day trip to learn more about West Virginia.
Their first stop was Blackwater Falls. The water has a dark color because it’s tinted by hemlock and red spruce needles upstream. This is one of the most photographed views in all of West Virginia.
These golden trout are living inside Smoke Hole Caverns. These caverns were created over millions of years and have the second highest ceiling height of all caverns along the east coast.
Seneca Rock was at one time the edge of the ocean. How times change!

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory makes WV a leader in the study of star formation, pulsars and the physics of extreme states of matter in the universe.

It was evening by the time Little One’s group made it to Cranberry Glades, a unique area of WV that is very similar to the arctic tundra.
Many thanks to Little One for sharing her photos with us! If you’d like to see more of her pictures, please click here. (She’s especially pleased with her bat picture from Smoke Hole Caverns.)

Thank you! She really liked that camera and I told her she earned it, it’s hers. It’s my old camera and Jay and the kids take it when they’re going someplace photo worthy. I’m hoping Tall One will get some good pictures from DC this weekend!
