Because We Love Our Putnam Pets
Today I was reminded yet again how much I love my furry kids — 3 cats and 2 dogs. Each and every one of them is a pet that someone else didn’t want or couldn’t keep.
The one thing they have in common is that we adopted them from the Putnam Animal Relief Center or the Putnam County Humane Society. I want to thank the people who work and volunteer at the shelters. They kept my pets healthy, fed and loved until I found them.
And yes, the employees do fall in love with the animals. If you think you couldn’t volunteer there because you’d fall in love and it hurts to think about what happens when an animal doesn’t find a home … well, the employees just view it from another angle. They love them while they’re there, and sometimes it’s the best love those animals ever get. I volunteered there for a year, and thinking about it like that was the only way I could do it. I just loved them while they were there.
I made the Show below a couple years ago, when a new animal shelter was still just a dream. Fund raising for our new shelter is now well underway, and I can’t wait until there’s more room and better living conditions for Putnam County’s “ownerless” pets.
Donations are still very much in need and happily accepted. If you’d like to pitch in (perhaps thankful for the little fuzzballs in your life?), please use the following address:

Thank you so much.

Oh yeah, I think that your slide show would make a perfect ad for your Putnam Animal Shelters Sarah! Your photos are awesome, and the one of the pup hiding behind the leg of it’s volunteer? Purrfect! I can see the “want in each puppy and kitty’s eyes too.
You did a beautiful job on this

I can’t even imagine getting a “furkid” anywhere else. Our dog was on the way to be dropped off at the pound when my husband’s friend stopped by our house to see if we would take him, instead. How could we say “no?” Unfortunately, he was hit by a car 5 years later, and it was the Roane County Animal Shelter employees who lovingly wrapped his body up and contacted us so we could pick him up and give him a proper doggy funeral. They were so sweet to us all at such a difficult time. Whenever we decide to get another dog, we’ll definitely go there.
Animal shelters also take donations of clean sheets and towels, by the way, as well as pet food and toys. They are always in need of these things.

Lysa, that pup hiding behind the leg was the last of it’s litter to be adopted. I was there when they were brought in and that was the one I liked, what a sweet face! I was so surprised when it was the last one still there, but it did get a home!
Rebecca, I’m glad to hear they were so caring with your sweet doggie! I’m sorry he was hit, but what a good testimony of the kindness of the shelter employees. I’m glad you mentioned the donations — they also are always in need of newspapers, it’s a great way to recycle! (And doggie treats and kitty toys are a rare treat!)
