Got my homemade mill kind of running1/5/14
Its up and running but I have to fix a few bugs in the system first. With the engine costing close to 2000 dollars and all the tools and tent I built I am getting close to having 4000 dollars in the mill. Video below--
Here is a video update as to where I'm at on my bandsaw mill. Not far to go before it's finished.
Thanks for posting. I've always wondered how you true up tire bandwheels. Hope the blade guides do the trick for you. Have you checked the set in your blade teeth?
The blade as about 20 thousand set. I noticed the idler wheel side of the blade is pointing down just a wee bit. I will try to level the blade by ajusting the wheel. I don't know if thats how other others true up their tires but thats how I did it. Its the only way I could figure out to get everything concentric. Once I get everything ajusted so so I'm going to try a 2'' wide blade and see how that works. But all in all I'm real happy with the out come so far.
Video of my bandsaw mill cutting wood. Its running good without any saw guides,so I may not add any. I only have 1 blade right now and when I started cutting the log it hit lots of dirt that caused some wavey boards. I came up with a way to sharpen the blade. I used my 4 1/2 grinder with a cut off wheel on it to sharpen while on the mill. After I did that the blade started cutting straight.
Rod, if you can sharpen a blade with an angle grinder, you must have a good eye and a steady hand! You'll need to re-set the teeth eventually, but it sounds like you've got the problem solved for now. I've got my doubts about using a 2" blade with less than 25 hp, though. The bigger mills use them so that they can muscle their way through logs with a dull blade and still cut straight.
Dave,I was kind of surprised I was able to shapen the blade with the angle grinder. I'll have to make a video of how I do it. Its really not that hard. It took me most of the day to figure out to to get the blade level with the log deck, and I couldn't find any info on how to do it. Now that I know how its not that hard to do. I might try an 1 1/2'' blade, right now this is the blade I'm using ''LENOX WOODMASTER C-SHARP?BAND SAW BLADES''
