Desert Color
While I was in Arizona I had the opportunity to visit the Sonoran Desert. Coming from West Virginia, surrounded by our green hills, I was expecting a dry, dusty, dead looking place.
I was SO wrong. The Sonoran Desert gets more rainfall than any other desert, making it the greenest of all deserts. It still only receives ten (or less) inches of rainfall each year, but it is very much alive and lush. It’s the only place in the world where the marvelous saguaro cactus grows wild.
We only traveled a short distance from Scottsdale and were rewarded with breathtaking desert views. Below is a collage of a few of my pictures from the trip. If you’d like to see more, you can visit my Flickr set here.

I am always amazed by the purple that is all over the desert. Wait till you see the north desert!
