Do You Etsy?

In The Twilight GardenOne of the things I like best about West Virginia is our abundance of creative people. If you’re crafty and have ever wondered about selling your creations – or if you just like to see REALLY neat stuff – have I got a site for you!

I’d like to recommend Etsy.com. Etsy makes it easy to support local artists. Might I suggest something from:

  • Stephanie Fizer in Huntington, whose charming illustrations use soft colors, clean lines and a lot of sweet imagination.
  • Chambers in Fayetteville makes dog and cat snacks using only healthy ingredients, which are listed on each item.
  • Hillbillyfairy from Berkley Springs sells gorgeous bags and cuffs — and the descriptions are nearly as colorful as her wares!
  • gr8clay in Beckley makes art you can use, such as these beautiful wheel-thrown porcelain mugs.  (I’m feeling a need for a new mug … )

If you’d like to see even more items from West Virginia, click here to search by state or city.

Do I have you wondering now about what you might be able to sell? If you’re thinking about it, I’ll help you with the highlights.

It’s free to set up a shop. (Yes, really — free!) Listing an item costs 20 cents per item. Have everything you need at hand before you start the five step listing process. When you sell an item, there is a 3.5% sales fee. Listings can have five images and stay up for four months.

That’s pretty much it! You can see all the details of selling on Etsy here.

I wish you many happy hours of shopping on Etsy! (Why should I be the only one?) Be sure to check out their many ways to locate interesting new items. My favorite is “Pounce“, which lands on three brand new shops or three recent sales to give you the jump on the freshest Etsy finds.

The illustration “In the Twilight Garden” by Stephanie Fizer is used with her permission and can be yours from her Etsy Shop!

I ♥ Etsy! I have never sold anything on there, but a lot of my friends do, or have in the past. I actually did a lot of my Christmas shopping there! You support actual artists and artisans instead of major corporations paying slave wages in underdeveloped countries for products that may or may not be recalled in a few months!
