Hurricane’s Starting Something New
Scott Edwards has begun his term as Mayor of Hurricane. I don’t live within the city limits so this doesn’t affect me as much as it might some of you. But I DO work with clients who are moving in and out of Hurricane, and it’s in their best interests for me to stay up to date on what’s going on in City Council meetings.
Before Scott took office, he said if elected he’d like to change the language of the dog limit law in Hurricane. Currently there is a two dog limit within Hurricane city limits. Did you know that? A lot of people don’t. Even the Humane Society, which knew of a limit, thought it was three.
Scott said he’d like to remove the number from the law, and concentrate on the more important areas like abuse or neglect of animals. I agree with this and hope that he’ll do it.
I used to volunteer at the Putnam Animal Relief Center, and I tend to end up with home buyers and sellers that are also animal lovers. This matters to me in part because it matters to them.
City Manager Ben Newhouse told me that if I had clients wanting to move to Hurricane that had more than two dogs, I should tell them to reduce their number of dogs or not to move to Hurricane. I don’t like this line drawn in the sand. Hurricane is a wonderful town full of very caring people. That’s just not reflected well in this one law.
I feel there needs to be a change, and I’d like to hear what you think about it. Please take part in the poll below to share your views.
