Meet Some West Virginia Bloggers

WV BloggersOne of the coolest things about blogging is how bloggers connect to each other through links. Links in individual posts are nice, but the really special ones are in the Blog Roll. These links stay at the side of the blog, inviting readers to browse through blogs the author finds to be interesting or worthwhile.

I thought it might be nice to introduce some of the West Virginia bloggers I have in my blog roll. I’ve only met two of them in person, but maybe someday I’ll meet more. :)

A Better West Virginia focuses on the culture, economy and government of West Virginia. Reading here helps me feel more in the loop with what’s happening locally, from someone who really cares about West Virginia.

Carpe You Some Diem! snags me with her cool music, and I stay for her words. I like her life, and that’s enough for me.

Costume Blog is about Dale Morton Studio in Hurricane. The name says it all — they make costumes — but the COOLEST costumes you have ever seen!! Seriously, go look. You’ll see.

Donut Buzz has a great sense of humor, evidenced by his blogging quote by Abraham Lincoln when you leave him a comment. (You know you want to — go leave him a comment!) His wife also blogs at Jelly Filled.

Heart of Glass is about one the most fascinating places around, Blenko Glass, and their amazing art glass pieces. She’ll share her passion and educate you all at the same time, and soon you’ll be lusting after their deep, rich colors yourself.

The West Virginia Hot Dog Blog. Yes, this is WV and we love our hot dogs. You might think they’d run out of places to talk about, but you’d be wrong.  Seriously wrong.

Just a Modern Guy , it’s vintage, it’s modern — and I want it. This blog is based on the store/gallery The Purple Moon which makes me lust after totally nifty stuff.

Lincoln Walks at Midnight covers government and politics, plus encourages bloggers from all over West Virginia. And it’s named after my favorite statue. Good stuff, huh?

Scarlet Tanager is a craft goddess! She makes me want to be better at everything, and shares some pretty awesome ideas. I could goof off at her blog all day!

The “One and Only” Uptight Mortgage Guy offers rants and advice on finances and mortgages. He’ll tell you straight out how it is, and sometimes we really need to hear that.

This Is Not My Blog – as if you wouldn’t love this blog after you see a name like that! A lawyer in Charleston lets us follow him through his day and shares his thoughts, and I love to see where he goes. If you’re ever bored, you could spend a long time going through his links!

Troop Soup exists to support our West Virginian troops. Thank you, both to the troops and to those who help them out like this.

WV Life is written by a Japanese family who lived in West Virginia and just relocated to Texas. They have some great pictures of places they’ve been and things they’ve seen, and even with the language barrier I find it very much worth my time.

And that’s it, my West Virginia Blog Roll.  I hope you’ll take some time to check out a new blog and say hi to the neighbors.  We’re friendly around here.

You said you were gonna do this, and now you’ve done it! Makes me feel like SUCH a slacker. Nicely done, Sarah.

  2. Chris Griffith Says:

    I love the Troop Soup!

Sarah - Thanks for including us on your list. We hope you’ll stop in and see us soon in person!

You’re so sweet not only giving link love to your local bloggers but telling us more about them. I visited the costume blog and loved it. I’ll have to make some time for the others. Got sidetracked on your blogroll visiting Matt and learning about ear anomalies. LOL I have ADD for sure.

I think Sarah is doing an excellent job of distinguishing herself through “The Putnam Scoop,” by demonstrating her knowledge of and passion for the community. Providing an overview of the site’s blogroll was a great idea, and I need to do the same at aBetterWestVirginia. Thanks for the mention Sarah and I welcome the opportunity to collaborate in the near future.

    I think scoop is loney.

Why thank you! Such a nice thing to say about moi! I sometimes wonder why people read my blog … particularly when I find that I have less and less time to read the blogs of others anymore.

For the record, I love your writing style and always find some real gems when I get around to coming over here. :-)

  8. Bob Carney Says:

Thought I was out of commission for awhile guess not as long as the scoop. nudge, nudge…

  9. Rebecca Says:

Thanks for the hat-tip! I’m glad you like my blog. I didn’t even know about this site until I surfed in from sitemeter. I’ll be adding the Scoop to my blogroll.

Kinda bummed that your anti-spam question doesn’t allow for smartassery. Heehee!

  10. Heather Says:

    Hi Sarah,

Thank you so much for the link and for such sweet words. And thanks too for introducing me to some new (to me) and fascinating WV blogs.

Today is important for several reasons. First off, it’s West Virginia Day. But even more important is the movement of state bloggers that have contributed in an effort to reflect a more accurate view of our beloved state. To celebrate our successes, people, places, and culture.

Residents, expatriates, and general observers should enjoy the below collection. These works represent the best of West Virginia, reflecting the state’s true diversity and character. Don’t get me wrong, we have our challenges, and there will be a time to talk in detail about those issues. For now, we’ll focus mostly on the good.
