Mother’s Day

On Loss, originally uploaded by Sarah.WV.

This morning I woke up and the thought suddenly popped into my head that this was the first Mother’s Day that Aunt Nancy wouldn’t hear from Chris, my little cousin who was buried on Christmas Eve. That this was the first Mother’s Day that Missi would face without her husband by her side.

I made this video when we knew we were losing him, and it seemed like each bit of the world was just holding it’s breath.

Today’s a beautiful, sunny day. I was treated to breakfast out and a long walk. Later my husband and kids cleaned the house while I relaxed on the porch swing with a mug of coffee and a good book, surrounded by colorful pots of freshly planted flowers. As nice as the porch swing was, I went back inside to be near Jay and the girls again. Just their voices and being near them … that’s what I really wanted for Mother’s Day.

Life isn’t perfect, but it is ever so precious.
