Run for the Wall’s Stop in Hurricane, WV

Each year, the Run for the Wall riders stop over in Hurricane, WV for the night. They arrive with a WV State Police escort.

Front of the Line

I was told there were over 600 riders at this point.

Here They Come!

They ride to show support and bring healing to veterans, their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action, to honor the memory of those Killed in Action, and to support our military personnel all over the world. When you think of that, and see this many men and women working together as a show of support, it’s tremendously heartwarming.

The riders are friendly, happy to answer your questions or pose for a photo. My friend and I took her elementary age kids with us, and the bikers seemed especially happy to talk to them. Some even gave the kids small gifts.

A Gift From a Rider

Who needs GPS, right?  (We’re the last stop of the day!)

Directions

Just being able to walk among them and thank them was such a special treat. These riders feel so strongly for our veterans that they donate their time and ride across the country at their own expense just to show support. In their large numbers, with bikes roaring and flags waving, they’re an awe inspiring sight.

But they are no less inspiring when you meet them individually, face to face.

One Response to “Run for the Wall’s Stop in Hurricane, WV”

  1. Mayor Scott Edwards Says:

Great story and great pictures of the event last night. We brought hundreds of bikers into Hurricane and our local folks made them feel very welcome. The City worked with the local Chapter to provide all the bikers food, shelter and many other amenities (Sheetz gift cards for fuel, etc) while they were here in Hurricane. I also presented them with a proclamation declaring May 26th as RUN FOR THE WALL DAY in the City of Hurricane. Nice to see stories like this that remind everyone of why we are free today!
