Teays Valley Elementary School

Putnam County will have a new elementary school opening next fall for the 2008-2009 school year. Teays Valley Elementary will be made up of students from West Teays and Scott Teays and will feed into the Hurricane School system.

This has been a cause of some stress for the Scott Teays students as that school feeds into Hurricane’s rival school system of Winfield. Parents and students alike have worried about the possibility of children being removed from their current school systems to fit the new districts, or splitting families by sending older students through one system and younger kids through another.

At this week’s school board meeting however, it was decided that students currently in Winfield Middle and High will remain, and any younger siblings of these students will be allowed to continue in Winfield schools.

The tentative boundaries for the new school begin at South Poplar Fork Road, down Teays Valley Road to (but not including) New London Commons and north and south between I-64 and Route 60. This will be voted on in mid-January.

Common neighborhood names to be included to make this a little easier are:

Leslie Place
Teays Lane
Teays Village

The new principal will be Doug Pitzer, who was the assistant principal at West Teays.

Redistricting…so bad here you have to call just about every year to see if you kid is going to the same school next year. The boarders move all the time.

Look at all the opportunities to make new friends! You best friend might be there you have never even met yet.

    Good luck Putnam County!

Boundary changes and new schools are always tricky. You can never make anyone happy. At least this will alleviate any issues with over-crowding!

Now is the rumor true that the kids are picking the name, school colors, and mascots is this true? If this is true should the school board be worried if the name doesn’t work out?
