The Cancer Awareness Walk at Valley Park
Yesterday I walked in the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at
Our conversation wasn’t about cancer. We talked about how pretty the park looked with all the colored autumn leaves. We chatted about people we knew, and I took pictures for a friend of mine far away who isn’t getting to see fall this year. Since she wanted to help, she pointed out pretty trees for me and I captured as many as I could.
Neither of us had been on the walking trails since they’d extended them. These paths weave around pretty ponds and picturesque wooded views. It was peaceful, and nice to be out with a friend enjoying a cool fall morning.
Suddenly I remembered I was participating in a cancer awareness walk. I looked and all around me, people were laughing and chatting, giving hugs, dancing with little ones … there were smiles everywhere.
Yes, we were all there because somehow, cancer had touched our lives. But the living goes on. Whether we were walking in memory of a survivor or beside one, we were all really there to celebrate life.
May there be many more survivors, and many less that have to face the fight at all.
