The Ferguson Tea Room, Hurricane
There’s a little gem hidden in plain sight on Main Street in Hurricane, WV. It’s the Ferguson Tea Room & Root Cellar Herbs, owned by Sarah White-Cresap.
The tea room is decorated beautifully and features the painting skills of Sarah’s daughter Anna. (Be sure to look up, the ceiling will amaze you!) Each table is graced with candles and flowers. Place settings are varied so that each person has a unique dining experience. Part of the fun is comparing your china patterns to those of your dining partner.
The food is not only delicious but is prepared with healthy ingredients. Great care is taken in preparation as well as presentation. The menus vary, try something new each time you visit. (I am especially fond of the lavender scones — check for lavender sugar in Root Cellar Herbs.) You’ll find flavourful soups, finger sandwiches, scones and sweets. Prices are reasonable and the overall experience is relaxing.
If you want to impress an out of town guest with a little local flavor, this is the place to bring them. I’d also suggest this as a great place to treat your Mom or Grandma, and just imagine a little girl’s birthday tea party here!
In Root Cellar Herbs you’ll find a great selection of teas from all over the world as well as many varieties of tea pots, cups and saucers. This is a good place to look for a gift for the women in your life. The staff is knowledgeable and can give you recommendations based on health needs or taste preference.
You’ll find the Ferguson Tea Room at 2739 Main Street in Hurricane. Reservations are not required but are very helpful, especially if you’re bringing a guest. You may call them at (304) 562-4139.
