The Fur Ball

PARC DogI’ve known for some time that it’s not about “what you have.”  Lately it seems that it must be about who you take care of.

We have a big need for a new animal shelter in our community.  I used to volunteer as a dog walker and I know the condition of the building and troubles they sometimes have getting supplies and so on.  The staff is wonderful, but it amazed me how much of what is required to keep the shelter running comes from charity.

Thankfully, the residents of Putnam County love our animals.

Plans for a new shelter are well underway.  One of the many fundraisers for the new shelter is the “Fur Ball” on January 12 at the beautiful West Virginia Cultural Center.  This is a black tie affair with tickets available for $100 each.  (Christmas gift alert!!  Is your Special Someone an animal lover who would appreciate a special night out with you?  Think about it!)

West Virginia First Lady Gayle Manchin and Miss West Virginia Summer Wyatt will both be in attendance.  (Bring your cameras!)

Cultural Center ChandelierThis event will likely be widely covered by the press and corporate sponsorship is available.  AEP John Amos Plant has already agreed to donate $10,000, which earns them premier signage, exclusive ticket packages and an opportunity to speak at the event.  Corporate sponsorship begins at just $1,500 for signage and six tickets, so don’t feel that smaller businesses can’t contribute.

The hope is that the Fur Ball will raise between $75,000 to $100,000 which will allow completion of the new state of the art Putnam Animal Relief Center.

In all likelihood, this will be the most elegant event you’ll see in these parts all year.  While it will be a wonderful night out, don’t forget that it’s really about helping out our county’s beloved pets.

Who doesn’t want to help a cause like this. I’m a dog lover thru and thru. I’d have 100 of them if I could.

Had a great time at the Fur Ball on Saturday night and was very happy to see such generous donations given to help build the new shelter. Keep ‘em coming !
