The Story of a Caring Employer

Leah Hickman’s funeral will be tomorrow, December 29, at 7:30 at the National Guard Armory in Point Pleasant.  Visitation begins at 1:00 and continues until her funeral.  Private services will follow.

This is a sad story, one that we all prayed would have a happy ending.  I was out of town when Leah’s body was discovered, and it was hard for me to come back and write about the outcome.

Then this morning on the news I heard about Leah’s employer, Dress Barn in Barboursville, and I had to tell you about them.

They had offered a $10,000 reward to information on Leah’s whereabouts.  Now they are using that money to pay for Leah’s funeral.

After her body was found last Friday, Dress Barn closed for two days out of respect.  This was the Saturday and Sunday before Christmas — and rather than to be open during a “money weekend”, they allowed their employees the time they needed to grieve.

Employees of other Dress Barn locations will cover for the Barboursville employees so that they can attend Leah’s funeral tomorrow and the store can remain open.

This company obviously values people over money.  I wonder how many other companies would have behaved in such a caring way?

I’ve been in that Dress Barn, but only a time or two.  I will certainly be sure to stop in more often now.  We vote with our dollars, and when a company shows how much they care like this, they get my vote.

I didn’t know Leah or her family, but I have daughters.  I appreciate the care they showed for someone else’s missing daughter.  Thank you Dress Barn, and so many others who made so many efforts to try to find her.

Very kind of the Dress Barn to show this kind of respect and honor towards the family of Leah.

Truly sad news when this broke…there is at least closure as hard as it might be to grip. The Dress Barn is truly a class act.
